Acts of Courage for Your Soul

Last updated: Jun 25, 2019

“The signs are all around you, but even more the signs are all within you. Your soul is being pulled forward…You are no longer satisfied with where you are now, and now you are on a quest for where you do not know…your soul craves to become, and you will never be satisfied with less.” Erwin Raphael McManus, Soul Cravings

When I left my marriage after 11 years, I didn’t really know what would be waiting for me on the other side of what turned about to be a long walk.

When I left my profession, I didn’t know exactly what I would do next, but I knew I couldn’t keep doing what I had been doing for the 20 years prior.

The whispers of our lives, many times, tell us “there’s more,” but they don’t give us all the details of what more looks like and they certainly don’t give us a map. So, I am always in deep admiration for the people who heed those whispers and reach out to me as a guide for their journey.

There are some brave souls out there.

I spent the weekend coaching women who had only spoken with me on the phone and got on a plane and met me in another state for a weekend of coaching and healing in order to find the love they wanted in their lives. They didn’t really know me, they didn’t know what each day would hold, but they trusted that they were exactly where they needed to be and remained open to the process. Trust requires courage.

Most of my clients are women, so imagine my surprise when a successful businessman contacted me and ask for help in his relationship with the mother of his children who couldn’t remain honest or faithful. According to Brené Brown, the #1 shame trigger for men is asking for help – so this, in my opinion, took remarkable courage.

I speak to courageous women every day that are seeking change and tell me some version of:

  • I’ve have subjugated my needs for so long that I don’t even know what I want or who I am anymore.
  • I think I stayed because I’m so afraid that I’ll never find anyone else.
  • I’m not being beaten or anything; I should be happy.

It takes tremendous courage to heed the whispers of our lives, because fear is usually riding shotgun with those whispers.

It takes remarkable humility to reach out and say, “I can’t do this alone”

It takes a significant belief in yourself to invest in a guide for the journey.

Sometimes the most courageous thing you can do is just to keep showing up for yourself each day.

It takes incredible self-love to say, “This isn’t how my story is going to end.”

courage to show up

To be a part of their journey as they find the courage to heal their hearts and open themselves to love, even after being hurt, is my honor and privilege as a coach.

I received one of the best emails from a client that I’ve ever received this week. She told me that she woke up that morning and said to herself, “Welcome back, nice to see you again. It’s been a long time.”

Brilliant. Beautiful. Brave.

For all the brave souls that have the courage to walk their own journey, doing the work that 90% of people will likely never do in their entire lives: Deep bow.

Tell the Truth. Show up in Love. Live in Freedom.
